(9134) Minimum water rental charge
1 - A term used in USA The minimum charge payable by water users in advance for irrigable lands whether water is used or not. Such minimum charge need not be paid in any year for any area that is certified by the competent authority to be temporarily non-irrigable during such years due to seepage, land subsidence, shallow or impermeable soils, or excessive amounts of salts. The payment of the minimum water rental charges entitles the water user to a specified amount of water per irrigable unit of area. For water supplies in addition to this specified amount of water, the water user has to pay extra. 2 - In Australia it is referred to the quantity of water allocated per farm and for which the farmer is required to pay whether water is used or not as water right. It is usually referred to the minimum charge as `water right`, or `water right charge`.
